6 March, ALOR SETAR: Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak has been urged to explain the alleged irregularities in the state-owned Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) by releasing its financial documents.

Kuin senior assistant registrar Muhammad Azki Hafizi Ibrahim claimed that Insaniah Holdings Sdn Bhd (IHSB), a subsidiary of the university college, relied on it for funds.

“Azizan had been assuring the public that the financial status of Kuin was fine without showing any relevant documents.”

Based on IHSB's financial statement dated Dec 31, 2011, Muhammad Azki claimed the subsidiary owed Kuin a whopping RM12.9mil.

“There's no record of any transactions between Kuin and IHSB including the interest rate for the debt and the repayment schedule.

“IHSB did not generate any profit as it only set up smaller companies to run several faculties here,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Muhammad Azki urged the Auditor-General to probe the alleged financial irregularities.
In 2011, students and staff of Kuin staged a series of protests, demanding its rector, Prof Datuk Dr Jamil Osman and Azizan step down due to poor management.

It was also reported that some staff who had gone public with their concerns were issued show-cause letters.

When contacted, Kedah Islamic Religious, Education and Cooperative Committee chairman Datuk Mohamed Taulan Mat Rasul, who is also a member of Kuin's board of directors, said IHSB was in the middle of clearing its debt.

“I don't see a need for the state government to show any documents as we are solving the problem now.”
