KULIM: NON-governmental organisation Kedah Anti-Fraud Task Force is urging Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak and Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) rector Prof Datuk Jamil Osman to resign over problems involving the college.
Kuin is owned by the state government.
Its president, Khairul Anuar Ramli, had accused Kuin of "fabricating" meeting minutes for a court case.
He alleged that a senior secretary of Kuin was instructed to prepare fake minutes of a meeting between the college and hostel management company Syarikat Shake Cuisine Sdn Bhd.
The document, which was dated Oct 14, 2009, was tendered as an exhibit in a lawsuit by Shake Cuisine against Kuin for breach of contract.
In the lawsuit, Shake Cuisine had claimed that Kuin had agreed to pay RM2.16 million for a three-year contract to provide hostel and transportation services to 300 students at the college's Sungai Petani branch campus, between January 2009 and December last year. However, Kuin had breached its terms.
Kuin lost the case on Nov 4 and was ordered by the Alor Star High Court to pay Shake Cuisine RM1.599 million as balance due under the contract.
"We have documents to prove Jamil was involved," Khairul told reporters yesterday.
He then produced a copy of a statutory declaration made by Jamil's senior secretary Kamaliah Osman, who revealed that the minutes were fabricated.
On Aug 8, Kamaliah stated in the declaration that she was instructed to prepare the documentby deputy rector Assoc Prof Zakariya Man, who was handling the lawsuit.
She said the minutes were amended several times and Zakariya and Kuin's lawyers had gone over it before it was approved and signed by Jamil.
Based on Kamaliah's declaration, Khairul said the integrity of Kuin's management was questionable, tarnishing its reputation.
He said he would lodge a police report on the "fake" minutes.
When the New Straits Times contacted Jamil, he denied the meeting minutes were fabricated.
"It is an accusation," he said.
"The minutes are genuine... we will see how this matter develops and take legal action (against the NGO) if necessary."
