ALOR STAR: The 400-odd employees
of financially troubled state-owned Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) are
turning to the Higher Education Ministry for help.
Having lost confidence in Menteri Besar Datuk Seri
Azizan Abdul Razak to solve their problems, including late salary payments, the
unhappy lot has proposed the ministry to set up a special committee to probe
Kuin’s mismanagement.
The group’s spokesman, Muhammad Azki Hafizi, also
blamed Kuin rector Prof Datuk Dr Jamil Osman for all the problems.
Muhammad Azki, who is Kuin senior assistant
registrar, said Kuin ran into financial difficulties after Jamil had set up
seven subsidiary companies for the university college.
“All the companies have drained Kuin of its
funds. The menteri besar instead of hearing us out had chosen to turn a blind
eye to the problems caused by Jamil.
“We no longer have confidence in both men,”
he told reporters here today.
He said the group planned to hold a tell-all
ceramah in an open field next to Mara Polytechnic in Jalan Suka Menanti, near
here, at 3.30pm tomorrow.
“We invite all to come and hear what we have
to say about the mismanagement by Jamil. We are also inviting the menteri besar
to the event,” he said.
The frustrated Kuin lecturers and staff had
called for Azizan to quit as chairman of the institution after they claimed he
had failed to address a host of problems, including unaccredited courses and
favouritism by the senior management team.
They had also demanded Azizan to apologize
to them after he labelled them as Umno agents.
